Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Report 29.08.19
Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 29.08.19.
With only one race to go, a handicap which doesn’t count towards the overall championship, Mercia CC – Lloyds Cycles Under 14 rider, Zak Machin has won the Mallory Park youth league. The league which started in early April is one of the hardest to win as it takes in so many races consistency is vital over the long period of time. His latest 4th place ensured that he beat all competition to justifiably take the trophy. He has over the long season improved such that he is now a marked rider in all types of road racing.
Mercia’s Under 12 rider Daniel Ward has taken part in a number of the Mallory Park races and finished in 13th place in the latest round. A result which probably reflected his lack of road racing this season. He was however, well up with the leaders throughout the race but just lacked a little finishing speed.
Ward had a more successful race when taking a fine 3rd place at the very hot ‘Lets Ride Leicester’ races over the weekend.
Zak Machin also took part in the prestigious ‘North West Tour’ event over three days. Three different types of races, a short prologue, a hilly race and a fast Criterium took place in Preston, Lancaster and Blackpool over one weekend. The weather was very hot and the riders had to ensure that they were fully hydrated throughout. Machin had high hopes after the Prologue when finishing in 11th place out of the 80 riders. He had bad luck on the second day when he dropped his chain when in a promising position. The delay cost him dearly and he crossed the line in 33rd position, dashing his hopes of a good overall placing. Credit to the young rider who undeterred had a storming race on the last day to take a fine 4th place finishing in the same time as the winner. His mechanical misfortune on the second day pushed him down the leader board but considering his bad luck, he should not be down hearted with his overall 24th placing. After three days of racing the winner was Oliver Akers of Albion Cycling.
Anne Staley took part in the National 25mile Time Trial Championship held on the Etwall A50 course. She finished in 27th place overall and 16th Veteran lady. Her time was 1:07:22.
Mercia CC – Lloyds Cycles held the last club TT of the season over 5 miles on a hot evening on the Anslow circuit. A rare appearance and a win for David Clarke in a time of 12minutes 49 seconds. The next rider was Under 16 Mercia rider Liam Mewis in 13:48. Other riders were Keith Staley, 14:43. Steve Herriman, 14:44. John Brewin 15:48 and Steve Ingram 15:53.
