Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 04.07.19.
In the absence of an Under14 category, Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles rider, Zak Machin pitched in with some talented older riders in the Under 16 class at the prestigious Otley Town centre races. Undaunted he finished in a fine 14th place overall and 2nd placed Under 14 rider in what was a very fast race. A fine effort out of the 48 finishers. The winner was seasoned continental rider, Josh Giddings of the MI Racing Academy.
Zak Machin of Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles had another good race in the Mallory Park Youth Road Race League when he finished in 3rd place behind the winner Josh Jackson of the MI Racing Academy. The strong finish kept the Under 14 year old rider in first place in the Championship with 5 races remaining.
Mercia’s U12 rider Daniel Ward is still enjoying riding in all possible types of event and took part in the Queen Victoria Summer Cyclo Cross event at Blists, Telford. In a big field of riders enjoying the very hot sunshine he finished in a very close 8th place not far behind the winner George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme.
The next day he changed disciplines to Mountain Biking when taking part in the Run & Ride Cannock Chase Summer Classic. He was in the top three riders throughout and finished a very creditable 3rd place. At the same event his father Gary took part in the Senior race where finished in 19th place. Also in this race was accomplished local rider, Christian Aucote the rider who is still recovering from two serious road cycling accidents, was narrowly pipped into second place by the winner Lee Gratton of the host team, Run & Ride.
Taking part in the Masters Track Championship at Newport Wales was Sean Sleigh of Born to Bike Bridgetown Cycles RT. He competed in four events each with a large number of riders, his best result was 6th place in the 15k Scratch race and he was very consistent with two 7th and one 8th place making the journey worthwhile. Sleigh also had a good result in a recent road race in the Masters league at Mallory Park where he finished in 4th place.
With the completion of the roadworks on the Anslow course Mercia were able to resume their Tuesday evening 10 mile Time Trials. The eleven riders faced a very strong wind making fast times very difficult. The winner as in several other time trials was Lee Aston with a time of 24.26. Other riders times were Erik Woronovich 24.43. Darren Rider 25.32. Rob Gower 26.11. Ben Startin 26.19. Jeff Slinn 27.29. Keith Staley 28.54. Tony Marlow 29.34. Dave Baines 32.54 (following a road incident) at one lap Steve Ingram 16.52 & Dave Peters 19.53.
Several Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles Time Trial riders took part in the event held on the Sudbury course and Rob Gower took a fine win over the 10mile course with a time of 24 minutes 06 seconds. The other riders times were Ben Startin, 24:44. Keith Staley 26:44 & Dave Baines 30:09.
