Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 16.11.18
The Notts Derby Cyclo League continued with Round 5 at the relatively new course at Berry Hill Park in Mansfield. Hosted by Ashfield RC the venue again proved to be very popular with many riders not taking part in the clashing National Trophy event at Crawley. A good mix of open parkland and muddy wooded sections tested the riders in all classes.
Julie Tipper Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles V50F rider again showed her talent when, although a newcomer this year to the sport, she beat many more experienced riders to take a fine 2nd place behind the winner Alison Sarmiento of www.cyclocrossrider.com.
Another newcomer riding in the very competitive Senior men’s class, is Oliver Parker who was in fine form when finishing in 13th place in a big field of riders behind winner Chris Metcalfe of Fabric Racing.
Zepnat.com RT-Lazer Helmets rider Pascal Arnoux had his usual excellent race when finishing in 2nd place behind Philip Roach of Team Jewson-MI Racing-Polypipe in the V55 veterans race.
In the Under 12 category the younger Mercia riders Daniel Ward and Sam Parker were unable to trouble the leaders on a course where normally Ward in particular would have expected to shine. None the less his 8th place finish with Parker in 15th put them both well up the large field of racers. George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme continued his strong run of form when taking the win.
The following day saw many of the riders tackling the Lazer/Ridley West Midlands Round 8 Cyclo-Cross event held at Newport in Shropshire. The course was generally fast and after his ride the previous day Daniel Ward was keen to put in a good ride. He decided to try different tactics in this race and went hard from the start. Not content with sitting in with a bunch other riders he was happy to make his own pace. The new style paid off handsomely with a fine 3rd place much closer to the winner who was again George Cooper of Sherwood Pines Cycles Forme.
Mercia CC- Lloyds Cycles rider Daniel Partington competed in the C1 section of the track cycling held at the Derby Velodrome. A relative newcomer to track racing he produced some very good results with two 2nd places in the 20 lap Scratch race and the 30 lap Reverse win out race. He followed these up with a 3rd in the 30 lap Tempo race and an 8th in the 20 lap scratch race. Hopefully he will be encouraged to compete in further events at the venue.
