Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles report 28.02.19
Round 4 and final round of the Woolly Mamil Winter road race series was held at Stourport on Severn. The races are always very popular at the purpose built venue with riders travelling from far and wide.
A hard winter training paid off for Mercia CC- Lloyds Cycles Under 14 rider, Zak Machin, when he finished fourth in a very close race behind the winner Emyr Truelove of Abergavenny RC. His consistent performance in all four rounds saw him eclipsed only by Truelove for him to finish in a fine second place overall in the series.
One of Mercia’s other young riders, Daniel Ward, rode in the Under 13 category of the Run & Ride Mountain Bike Winter Classic at Cannock Chase. This was a big step up in age group for this young rider and it was always going to be a tough task for him to challenge the leaders. A chaotic start meant that his race was made even harder and he had to pass a lot of riders, which he did to take a fine 3rd place. The winner was Finn Davis of ‘A Cycling’.
Completion of The Notts Derby Cyclo League saw several Mercia CC-Lloyds Cycles finish with good final placings. In the Under 12 category Daniel Ward finished in 8th place and Sam Parker in 15th. Good results considering the large number of riders in this Category.
www.Zepnat.com RT – Laser Helmets rider Pascal Arnoux rode into 2nd place in the V55 whilst Mercia’s V70 rider Adrian Waters finished in 1st place in a category where not many riders care to enter. Despite being ineligible for a number of the early races Julie Tipper took a very well deserved 2nd place in the Ladies V50 category. A result even more satisfying considering that this was her first full season in the sport.
