Joshua Waters finishes in 8th place in the National Trophy Cyclo Cross Junior race in Durham.
Round 3 of the Cyclo Cross National Trophy Series was held in Durham. Joshua Waters (Sherwood Pines Cycles SRAM RT) was one of the riders in the Junior race. Heavy rain and a full race programme on the Saturday and rain again on the Sunday made for a muddy slippery course in the grounds of the Durham Cricket Club.
Joshua was hopeful of a high placing and, from the start, set a very fast pace. Relishing the technical sections he and another rider established a healthy lead at the end of the first lap. Unfortunately a stitch caused him to drop back into the low 20’s in a field of 30 riders. When he recovered, he again showed that he was on good form, riding sections of the course that all other riders didn’t attempt. By the chequered flag he had moved into 8th place, but earlier in the race a top 3 placing looked very much in prospect. Joshua had some satisfaction in being the highest placed Sherwood Pines rider. Cameron Orr & Harry Lewis finished in 14th and 16th places respectively. The winner was Thomas Pidcock (Oldfield / Paul Milne s Cycles ER). The next National Trophy round is on the 29th November at Ipswich.
