UCI world amateur age related championships
I am delighted that Anne Staley again qualified to ride the 2017 championships which were held in Albi in southern France. She rode the time trial and the 97 kilo road race which she tells me was the longest event that she has ridden for some time. She made her way to Albi via Toulouse on an EasyJet flight from Bristol complete with two bikes, quite a feat in itself! Anne arrived in Albi the day before the time trial where she started number 2. She had no time to acclimatize to the 30C plus heat and did have mechanical problems which affected her time. She recovered and almost acclimatized for the road race two days later. There was a very large field with ex professional riders from all over the world – Anne rode very well with the help of the keen French spectators pouring bidons of water over her and finished a very good 9th on a very hot day on the undulating course.
The Club wishes Anne good luck in her attempt to qualify for the 2018 championship which is being held in Italy.
