Our History

The Mercia Cycling Club was founded in 1965. However, its roots can be found many years before this. Three long established local clubs got together and decided that amalgamation was in their mutual interests, and also the best policy with regard to the future of cycling in the area of Burton-on-Trent:

  • 1930
Swadlincote Wheelers – founded in 1930
  • 1946
Rykneld Road Club – founded in 1946
  • 1947
Overseal Cycling and Athletic Club – founded in 1947

At the end of 1965, the Mercia Cycling Club was born and the first annual club dinner was held. Since then, the club has continued with great success in all aspects of cycling.
